London is home to a huge range of hotels and some of the most famous are also some of the oldest. High Victorian style of 100+ years ago can be seen at the Crowne Plaza St James and in the Ritz Banquet Room. The Dorchester and Claridge’s illustrate the style of the 1930′s and 40′s Art Deco or Moderne (we can also see this Deco style in Miami in South Beach). The Baronial style can be seen in the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and in Gleneagles Bar. In Prague in the Czech Republic there are many good examples of the Roccoco style and the Art Nouveau style. Today modern hotels have become internationalised and quite similar the Four Seasons Hotel in London and the W Hotel in Seoul are good examples of the modern style. While the latest hotels around the world strive to have some feature to make them different from all their competitors Such as the longest rooftop pool in the World in Singapore. Hotels sell bedrooms and from the Emirates Palace to the London Ritz or a Tropical Island the bed is the main feature of the room. International Hotels also have the option to build in the style of their local architecture and we can see Chinese Traditional in the Shanghai Traditional Hotel, the Japanese traditional Ryokan in Karatsu in the far east. In Nepal the Nirvana Hotel is in local style, in India there are Colonial style hotels such as this one in Goa as well as old palaces. Sri Lanka has the Galle Face Hotel which is over 100 years old and the slightly younger Mount Lavinia. In Singapore the Goodwood Park Hotel reminds us of times gone by and the Winter Palace in Egypt was the home of the last King Farouk. Perhaps the most famous hotel built to mirror local style is the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. London is home to some of the most famous hotels in the world where politicians, royalty, celebrities and top businessmen stay when they visit the city. London Hotel School students who complete their work placements in these hotels are sure of a great start to their future careers. The variety and number of hotels makes the London industry one of the most exciting places to work in, and the high occupancy levels experienced by most hotels (combined with the high costs of these bedrooms) makes London a place where you can find many properties of the same brand. Hotels have even specialized in terms of which kind customer they target, we have hotels who target particular nationalities and these who specialize in different industries such as fashion, finance and music. Many of the guest of these hotels are Business people and demand high standards of service and facilities. |
